Dear Parents,
First of all, let me wish you all a Happy Holiday
Season. I'm sure it will be a little different for you this year without
your child around to share in the festivities. But, do keep in mind that
your son/daughter is having the experience of a life-time.....with ups and downs
and challenges and adventures and good days and bad days and all the emotions
that LIFE and GROWING UP encompass.
Many of your children will be feeling homesick this
time of year, so it is important that you correspond with them in a POSITIVE
light.
. Remind them of how proud you are of them
for being courageous enough to participate in this program.
. Be understanding of the challenges they are
facing, but encourage them to "work through" any problems or issues they may be
having.
. Understand that they are truly changing and
growing up at a rapid pace this year.
. Ask them LOTS of questions about what
is going on in their lives to help them focus on what an incredible
experience they are having.
. Don't underestimate the importance of your
support in helping your child to have a successful experience.
Ok......all that being said.......How do you think your child is
doing? We get monthly reports from all of them and know
what they are telling us, but is there anything else you think we, on the Youth
Exchange Committee, ought to know that we might not know????? If so,
I'd appreciate hearing from you. (Actually, I'd appreciate hearing from ALL
of you even if "everything seems to be going well" with your
child.)
THANK YOU for your willingness to allow your child
to be a part of this program that we believe is building bridges of friendship
and tolerance and understanding throughout the world.
Once again, best wishes for a Happy Holiday Season
and a Wonderful New Year.
