2009-2010 Outbound Class
Application and Selection
Outbound Students for the 2009-2010 school year will be selected in the autumn of 2008. Here is the process that our outbound exchange candidates will follow:
- Download and print our Outbound Guidelines and Conditions document. This includes many details about our program, and the standards we expect from our students. Student and Parents must sign this document before the preliminary interview.
- Read our Flat Fee Schedule document. This explains the financial aspect of our program.
- Download our Outbound Preliminary Application, fill out in Microsoft Word, and email it to outbound@rye6080.org. (deadline)
- Attend a Preliminary Interview at a local Rotary Club. You will be notified of this interview when your preliminary application has been processed. Bring your signed Guidelines and Conditions form.
- Complete our Outbound Full Application (Fillable PDF or MS Word) This is a detailed document, including essays, photographs, references and approval signatures. It is a "fillable pdf file" which you can edit, print and save on your computer, (deadline)
Appear before one of District Youth Exchange Interview panels. You will be notified of which panel to attend. Be sure to read How to Prepare for Your Youth Exchange Interview first!
Orientation and Preparation
Following the district interviews, candidates will be notified of their acceptance and of their target country assignment. All accepted outbound candidates will then follow this orientation and preparation process:- The district will send your application to your target country for review and acceptance
- In December, you and your parents will attend the Initial Orientation Meeting. You will learn the "nuts and
bolts" information about the program so everyone understands what
they are getting into.
- In January you will have the opportunity to attend a weekend activity with our current inbound students. You will be able to hear first-hand about their experience as exchange students, and can learn more about your target country.
- In the spring, you and your parents will attend a mandatory Weekend Orientation Session to prepare for your year abroad.
- You will receive news of your placement in your target country. You can start learning about your host town and start communicating with your host rotary club and host parents. You will apply for your visa and make travel arrangements.
- In late spring, you will attend the Rotary District 6080 Annual Conference with this year's inbound students.
- In late summer, you will depart for your year abroad as a Rotary Exchange Student!

- Flat Fee Schedule (2009-2010) Because the Rotary Youth Exchange Program is subsidized by Rotary donations and volunteers, this program typically costs 50-80% less than other youth exchange programs. The flat fee is the same for all countries.
